Beta is excited to participate in the SEI/ASCE Electrical Transmission & Substation Structures Conference, which is taking place in Atlanta this week. Beta President Ross Twidwell, P.E., and Civil Engineering Team Lead John Humphries, P.E., presented a poster titled, “Updating ASCE 113 Substation Structure Design Guide, Connection to Foundations: To Bend or Not to Bend? Evaluating Anchors with Leveling Nuts.”

The poster explains a new method developed by the ASCE 113 subcommittee to address the effects of bending in substation anchor rod design at any standoff distance. This approach revises the current evaluation of anchors in bending to a method more reflective of real behavior.

This year’s conference theme is “Dedicated to Strengthening our Critical Infrastructure,” and features technical sessions addressing modeling methods for lattice transmission structures, improving designs to help prevent wind damage and improving the efficiency of substation design and construction.
