Company Questions

What project details do you need to develop a proposal?

At minimum, Beta needs a one-line sketch (even a back of a napkin drawing works) to get started on your project proposal. Additional details include scope of work, a one-line diagram, equipment specifications and schedule. Contact us for an expanded list.

What is your typical project?

Our project capabilities range from 15kV–765kV and include utility and industrial substations, generation and transmission switchyards, transmission lines, gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substations, FACTS projects and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.

When you build a substation, do you account for preferred equipment?

Beta has established relationships with almost all of the high voltage industry vendors and suppliers. Beta can specify the equipment needed for the project and always uses the customer's preferred vendors and suppliers.

What size renewable projects have you built?

We have designed and built substations and switchyards that interconnected renewable energy projects ranging from 30MW–550MW.

What type of electrical studies does your Engineering Services team perform?

We provide a variety of electrical studies including Fault Current Analysis, Time Current Coordination Curves, and Arc Flash Hazard Analysis.

How can my project benefit from Beta’s services?

What industries do you serve?

We perform projects for a variety of customers, including utilities, municipals, investor-owned utilities (IOUs), industrial facilities, renewable power developers, non-utility generators and OEMs. Beta serves any customer that needs a high voltage solution.

What are your areas of expertise?

Our areas of expertise include Electrical Engineering, Civil & Structural Engineering, Substation Engineering, Transmission Line Engineering, Project Management, and Construction Management.

How long has Beta been in business?

Beta has been designing and constructing high voltage projects for more than 45 years.

Does Beta offer services beyond engineering, procurement and construction (EPC)?

Yes. Beta’s flexibility allows our teams to customize our execution strategy to meet any customer’s needs. We have experience with EPC; engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM); design-build; integrated project delivery; program management; Engineering Services and Agile by Beta®.

What are Beta's strengths? What type of projects are ideal for Beta?

Our primary area of expertise is in high voltage engineering and construction. We have the capability to perform projects from 15kV to 765kV. Our team combines this expertise with personal service and a collaborative attitude that seeks to deliver the best solutions for our customers.

Beta’s Conventional EPC team excels at large substation projects with unique challenges. Some examples include this 500/230kV substation in the mountains, this underground GIS project and this project that involved installing transmission line in mountainous terrain. Our Agile by Beta® solution is ideal for smaller projects that are on a fast schedule or have a constrained budget, like this 138/34.5kV collector substation for a solar project. Beta’s Engineering Services team offers quality front-end engineering and design, power systems studies and more. Our Engineering Services team is ready to help you get your project started or help you maintain your power systems for years to come.

Can Beta provide engineering consulting services?

We can provide front-end engineering support, high voltage studies, protection and control design, civil/structural design, and transmission line design.

Is your engineering performed in-house?

Beta maintains a staff of registered professional electrical and civil engineers, technicians and designers to complete your project.

Do you have your own construction resources?

Beta utilizes qualified subcontractors to meet the needs of our customer and does not have its own construction resources. This allows us to use subcontractors that are familiar with the local site conditions. Our subcontractors perform all civil, electrical and commissioning services. Beta has worked with both union and open shop subcontractors throughout the U.S.

In what states can you perform projects?

Beta holds electrical and civil PE licenses in the contiguous 48 U.S. states. We also hold all the required contractor licenses to work in these states to perform your required high voltage project scope.

Are you qualified to work on union projects?

Yes, we can work on union projects. We subcontract out all construction and can plan this to meet the project labor agreements.

Do you have a Statement of Qualifications?

Yes, please contact us to request a copy.
