LACASSINE, LA — What was once an empty six-acre plot at Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge is now the starting point of a vibrant comeback story. Beta Engineering supported the hands-on efforts of Rapides Parish 4-H students who are leading restoration efforts for Louisiana’s Cajun prairie land, which had all but disappeared. When most people think of the great Louisiana outdoors, they think of swamps and wetlands, but prairie lands are just as vital, supporting numerous animal species.
Equipped with seeds, shovels and a vision, these students planted nearly 300 native species in a seed mix from Louisiana Native Seed Company. This project wasn’t just about restoring land—it was about building a connection to nature and growing the next generation of leaders to be passionate about sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Watch the video below, produced by the LSU AgCenter, to learn more about these restoration efforts
Beta Engineering donated to the seed project to help provide 4-H members with the resources they needed to carry out their vision. Additionally, Beta provided five Power Protector STEM Challenge Kits. These hands-on kits offer students an engaging way to learn about renewable energy and apply critical thinking to real-world challenges.
Encouraging a passion for STEM fields and fostering a sense of responsibility toward the environment is more than an investment—it builds a foundation for future leaders and problem-solvers. Beta is proud to support organizations like 4-H, whose programs leave a lasting impact on students and the communities they serve. Together, with the determination of young leaders and the partnership of local organizations, we can create a brighter, more sustainable future for generations to come.
