CANTON, MS. — A new 100-megawatt (MW) solar park is online in Mississippi. The Ragsdale Solar Park is owned by EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) and is their second utility-scale project in the state. Beta Engineering engineered, procured and constructed the 230/35kV substation that connects the solar facility to the electrical grid, leveraging its signature line of Factory-Built Substations, Agile by Beta®.
The energization of Ragsdale Solar Park is a testament to how innovation, collaborative partnerships, and community-focused initiatives can help us achieve a clean energy future.
Prior to breaking ground on the solar park, EDPR NA hosted a community outreach event in downtown Canton. The event served as a construction kickoff and an opportunity for neighbors in Madison and Canton counties to ask questions and discuss the development and construction process with subject matter experts at EDPR NA and their contractors—Signal Energy and Beta Engineering.
To educate and showcase how renewable energy can stimulate economic growth in communities, EDPR NA and Beta Engineering co-produced a video featuring interviews with community leaders and stakeholders who attended the outreach event. The video was recently recognized by the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts (AIVA) with a W3 Award, which honors digital marketing and communications content from independent creatives to global agencies.
You can watch the award-winning project story in the video above.
This project showcases how we can work together to achieve a clean energy future, improve grid resilience, and grow communities. In addition to providing enough clean energy to power the equivalent of 15,000 Mississippi homes, Ragsdale will contribute approximately $34.6 million in additional funding to the local government over the project’s lifetime and will pay $15 million to local landowners leasing a portion of their land to host the solar park. The Ragsdale project also brought economic opportunities—employing nearly 100 people during construction and creating multiple full-time operation and maintenance positions.
To date, Beta has interconnected more than 6,000 MW of renewable energy sources to the grid—enough power for more than 3.5 million homes—and remains committed to helping customers achieve their long-term goals of powering a more sustainable future.
Agile by Beta® is our signature line of customizable turnkey Factory-Built Substations. This innovative design-build approach fast-tracks construction by shifting it from the field to the factory, which can provide more schedule certainty and reduce safety risks in the field. Once the substation is constructed inside a weather-controlled environment, it is shipped in large, modular sections to the project site, where it is lifted and assembled in a matter of days.
Witness the process for yourself and get the peace of mind you need on your next project. Schedule a tour of the facility where our modular substations are built or, when available, witness a Factory-Built Substation install live.
