This project involved the engineering, procurement and construction of a 138kV transmission line and modifications to two existing substations for an industrial plant. The customer needed a solution to help maintain process between two gates in the plant to allow power in the event of an emergency.

During the project kickoff meeting, our team gathered that the customer’s onsite team was concerned about some aspects of the project design they had specified. They explained to us that the original design had been a temporary solution to what they hoped was a short-term problem. Understanding that the customer’s primary decision driver was cost, Beta’s project team developed a value engineering option to install this 138kV transmission interconnection below grade as a deduct to the contract.

As the project progressed, our team faced several challenges, from outdated existing design packages to unprecedented hurdles related to the COVID-19 pandemic. In the face of all these challenges, though, the persistent determination of Beta’s team kept the project on schedule and under budget.

Beta understood that industrial customers’ top concerns are cost and safety and that they need the assurance that their high voltage project will match their facility’s needs. Beta looked for innovative ways to help the customer save money and ensure the result they wanted.

At the end of the project, the customer’s electrical engineering manager provided this feedback: “Beta’s team assigned to our project is a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable group to work with. The design engineer did an exceptional job creating a workable design from our basic scope of work and limited existing information provided. The on-site construction management also did a great job coordinating activities, getting the right personnel on the job, ensuring pandemic procedures were followed and had no injuries or near misses during our project.
